Computer Science as a field of the future
Information technology is now present in almost every sector of society and is one of the main drivers of innovation. There is a great need for qualified professionals in this field, both nationally and internationally, and the demand for jobs exceeds the number of students graduating each year.
Quality infrastructure
The DCC offers excellent learning facilities (including a library, wireless network, and 10 laboratories with over 200 workstations). Students have extended access, with some laboratories available 24 hours a day.
The environment is informal, with offices close to classrooms, encouraging proximity to teachers. The DCS is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the University of Porto, next to the Botanical Garden and surrounded by green spaces.
Research excellence
DCC faculty and researchers promote high-quality research at the international level, publishing in scientific conferences and participating in national and international projects, and are internationally recognized as leaders in various fields. This allows the faculty to stay up to date and promotes innovation and knowledge transfer.
Broad curriculum offering
The DCC provides a wide range of courses across all study cycles, offering multiple specialization options. Within each program, students may also choose from optional course units, allowing them to design a personalized academic path tailored to their individual interests.
High employability
The employability rate of our programs is close to 100%, with many of our graduates working in leading national technology companies. In addition, several alumni have pursued careers in universities, research centers, and international technology companies.
Competitive programming
The DCC encourages its students to take part in various programming contests, fostering a passion for solving algorithmic problems in a challenging yet enjoyable setting. DCC teams have consistently achieved top national results in competitive programming, winning first place in 8 of the last 17 editions of MIUP, the most renowned contest for university students in Portugal.
The DCC has also played an active role in promoting programming competitions among high school students, organizing events such as ToPAS and the Portuguese Olympiad in Informatics.
Student groups
DCC students organize events, workshops, and activities that combine learning with social interaction across different programs and year groups. These initiatives help new students adapt more easily and foster a strong sense of community.
Science outreach activities
The DCC and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto frequently host lectures by renowned national and international speakers on a wide range of topics in science, technology, arts, and society.
