Information technology is now present in almost every sector of society and is one of the main drivers of innovation.  There is a great need for qualified professionals in this field, both nationally and internationally, and the demand for jobs exceeds the number of students graduating each year.

The DCC offers excellent learning facilities (including a library, wireless network, and 10 laboratories with over 200 workstations). Students have extended access, with some laboratories available 24 hours a day.

The environment is informal, with offices close to classrooms, encouraging proximity to teachers. The DCS is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the University of Porto, next to the Botanical Garden and surrounded by green spaces.

Competitive programming

Competitive programming

The DCC encourages its students to take part in various programming contests, fostering a passion for solving algorithmic problems in a challenging yet enjoyable setting. DCC teams have consistently achieved top national results in competitive programming, winning first place in 8 of the last 17 editions of MIUP, the most renowned contest for university students in Portugal.

The DCC has also played an active role in promoting programming competitions among high school students, organizing events such as ToPAS and the Portuguese Olympiad in Informatics.
