The second edition of the Scholarship Program granted by the Chinese technology giant once again recognized talent from the Faculty of Sciences (FCUP), from a universe of applications that exceeded 5,300. The highlight is the percentage of women awarded: 47%. "A recognition for the country," said Luísa Ribeiro Lopes, President of .PT. In total, the technology company invested R$250,000 in this educational support, bringing the capital invested in the two editions to half a million, supporting 100 students.
Among the award-winning students are several from the DCC: Maria Beatriz Russo, Pedro Castro Correia, and Ana Beatriz Aguiar, from the Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Computing Engineering, from FCUP and FEUP, and doctoral students Luís Filipe Gomes and Cláudio Prata Gomes from Map-i (Doctoral Program in Computer Science, a joint program of the Universities of Minho, Aveiro, and Porto – FEUP and FCUP). Among the award winners is Maria Ana Leite, a Master's student in Data Science.
About "Seeds for the Future"
Launched in December 2022, the second edition of the Huawei Portugal University Scholarship Program received a total of 5,306 applications from students across the country – approximately 80% more than the number registered in the first edition of the program, in 2021/2022.
An independent jury of 10 experts analyzed and selected the 50 young Portuguese students who will receive this financial support.
Developed under a memorandum of understanding between the DNS.PT Association (.PT) and Huawei Portugal, the "Seeds for the Future" program has an annual investment of approximately 250,000 euros. The initiative is supported by INCoDe.2030, the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, and Portugal Digital.
The scholarships, which are based on academic merit, are awarded over the course of one year by .PT. In addition to academic performance, the evaluation of applications also took into account students' extracurricular activities.
