The Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (DCC-FCUP) invites expressions of interest for career positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, involving teaching and research activities in Computer Science in its specific scientific areas.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
The DCC-FCUP is responsible, or co-responsible, for 4 undergraduate programmes, 8 master’s programmes, and 2 doctoral programmes, serving a community of more than 2000 students.
Interested candidates are invited to send to the Head of Department, Professor Fernando Silva (dcc.diretor@fc.up.pt), by April 20, 2026, the following materials:
- A brief motivation letter, including a short description of the candidate’s research agenda and examples of courses they could teach;
- A curriculum vitae;
- Two or three representative publications.
Based on the received expressions of interest, the DCC-FCUP may invite a number of candidates to visit the department and deliver a research seminar of up to 30 minutes.
The department seeks candidates of any nationality with potential for scientific leadership and the ability to develop internationally competitive research, including the ability to attract competitive research funding.
Teaching duties may initially be carried out in English. However, candidates hired through the subsequent recruitment procedures will be expected to acquire sufficient proficiency in Portuguese to teach in Portuguese within two years of appointment.
In the next few months, the department expects to open up to three formal calls for Assistant Professor positions in the areas listed.
