DCC student at a prestigious international conference
Bruno Vaz, a student in the Computer Science Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), participated in TNC22, which took place from June 13th to 17th in Trieste, Italy.
Currently in his second year of the Master's in Data Science, he was one of eight students selected to participate in Lightning Talks, where he had to present his project in five minutes. "My work consists of using GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks) to create synthetic samples to improve the performance of Machine Learning models in detecting fake news," he explains.
When asked about his biggest challenge, besides communicating to a large audience, Bruno Vaz states that "it was conveying the true meaning of the topic, without using technical jargon and in five minutes."
This annual conference welcomed over 700 professionals and students from around the world to discuss the theme "Navigating the Unexplored."
