Master in Data Science

Master in Data Science

The main goal of the Master's in Data Science (M:DS) is to train highly qualified professionals in Data Science, with a particular focus on the analysis of large volumes of data. Several technological advances have contributed to the exponential growth of available data. The decreasing cost of countless sensors, the increasing “informatization” of most human activities, the phenomenon known as the Internet of Things (IoT), among other factors, have all driven this growth. This enormous volume of data often “hides” valuable information about organisations and their activities. The ability to extract that information from large datasets is, therefore, a competitive advantage that most organisations have already identified as a key factor for success.

The programme is designed to provide solid knowledge in both statistical analysis and computer science. Data Science lies at the intersection of these two domains, making it essential for Data Science specialists to master topics from both areas. Beyond strong theoretical foundations, another key objective is to offer applied and practical expertise in Data Science, not only through the way classes are taught but also through assignments and projects carried out in collaboration with companies facing real-world challenges that require Data Science methods.

Career Opportunities

This master’s programme aims to train professionals in Data Science and, in doing so, help address the recognised shortage of qualified professionals currently available in the labour market, as highlighted by several studies and business organisations.
