The Master’s in Information Security aims to provide advanced, high-quality training for both professionals and researchers. It seeks to enhance the technical knowledge of graduates who wish to immediately pursue a professional career, while also strengthening the theoretical foundations of those who intend to continue in academia.

By the end of this program, students are expected to have acquired:

  • In-depth knowledge in the scientific field of Information Security, through research, innovation, or the development of advanced professional skills;
  • The ability to understand and solve problems in new situations or broader contexts, either in specialized professional practice or in research activities;
  • The capacity to integrate knowledge, develop solutions, or make judgments in situations of limited or incomplete information, while reflecting on the resulting ethical and social responsibilities;
  • The ability to communicate knowledge, conclusions, and underlying reasoning clearly and accurately to both specialist and non-specialist audiences;
  • Skills that enable autonomous, lifelong learning.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this Master’s program are qualified to plan and manage complex information security processes within organizations and to take leadership roles in active cybersecurity operations across a wide range of companies. The program covers the multiple components of security that must be integrated into any organization aiming to safeguard its assets. As such, graduates will be prepared to manage the security of IT systems involving databases, systems administration, communication networks, web development, mobile applications, digital business process dematerialization, secure digital preservation, and more. These skills can be applied both in specialized domains or in general consultancy on IT systems, fitting the needs of different companies, institutes, and public organizations. In addition, given the scope of the program, graduates may also pursue research in the field of Information Security, benefiting from the strong connection between this degree and the newly established Competence Center for Privacy and Security at the University of Porto (C3P).
