Emanuel Tomé is completing his Master’s in Data Science and is currently a Data Scientist at BOSCH.
He shares his reasons for choosing this Master’s program:
"My first contact with data science was during my PhD in Civil Engineering, where I had the opportunity to develop algorithms for anomaly detection in bridges. A year after finishing my PhD, and although I considered myself to have a successful career in civil engineering, I was unsatisfied with my job at the time. So, I decided to quit and enroll in the Master’s in Data Science (M:DS) at FCUP. Today, I believe this was not only the best decision I ever made in my career, but also in my life!
At FCUP and in the M:DS, I had the chance to build the solid foundations in data science that I was looking for. I found a very active and dynamic Department of Computer Science (DCC), with plenty of opportunities to participate in research and development projects involving real-world cases.
The opportunity to take part in these projects allowed me to accelerate my learning. During the M:DS, I also participated in the Erasmus+ mobility program, through which I had the chance to study at the Technical University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. At DCC and in the M:DS, I also met a group of highly talented colleagues from different backgrounds who share the same passion for discovering new ideas through data, and from whom I learned a great deal. I couldn’t be more satisfied, as all my expectations for the M:DS — which were already high — were exceeded."
